Northern Illinois vs. Coastal Carolina—Northern Illinois finished at 9-4 during the regular season. They had clinched a spot in the MAC title game on November 17th so rested some key starters in their loss to Western Michigan. They put it all together in the MAC title game where they defeated Kent 41-23 behind a strong defensive performance holding the Golden Flashed to 345 yards. They have run the football effectively down the stretch as in their past three games rushing for 280 yards and 6.2 yards per carry. Coastal Carolina had trouble covering spread in the Sun Belt failing to cover five of six down the stretch. They failed to earn a trip to the Sun Belt Championship game with losses to bowl bound Appalachian St on the road and Georgia St at home. They needed overtime in their final regular season game to get past South Alabama on the road by six. Chanticleers have failed to cover four of five as a double digit favorite.
