In this episode, Jake and Haley Whitaker talk about fishing and FGCU women's basketball with Big D.
First, Jake talks about his bass fishing experience. He remembers how his dad helped get him into fishing. While at UNC Charlotte, Jake won the 2014 National Championship. In 2018, Jake won the Bassmaster Rookie of the year, reeling in fish against the pros at a young age..
For top bass fisherman, winning the Bassmaster Classic is the No. 1 goal. Jake has made three straight Bassmaster Classics. Jake explains the process of an event. Usually, bass tournaments have four days of competition. All bass fishers are guaranteed two days, and the top-50 weights advance to the third day. The top-10 scores make the fourth and final day of fishing.
Jake's next event is the Guaranteed Rate Bassmaster Elite at Lake Champlain from July 8-11
Then, we switch to Haley talking about her FGCU. Memorably, Haley will never forget running head coach Karl Smesko's mile he wanted his team to run for conditioning.
In 2017, FGCU played Miami in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Haley was impressed with how many FGCU fans made the trek to Coral Gables. Haley, Taylor Gradinjan, and I even took a picture together while watching the first game. Even though Miami won by two points, it was a fun experience seeing FGCU rain a few threes in March.
